8 hocus pocus themed cupcakes

Hi everyone, I’m so excited to share with you my Hocus Pocus themed Halloween cupcakes! I really love how they turned out! These cupcakes are a tribute to Hocus Pocus, one of my favourite childhood films. I love Halloween and the various possible cake designs that come with it! In this post I show how I made the broom, mop and vacuum cleaner cake toppers. There is a list of the items used in this tutorial at the bottom of the page.

Before I get on with the tutorials, here’s a close up of the famous spell book. “Book, darling, come to me!”

Hocus Pocus Themed Broomstick Cupcake Topper

The colours I used to make the broomstick were Sugarflair Dark Brown for the handle and PME Old Gold for the bristles.

Firstly, I rolled a small piece of brown modelling paste into a tube and flattened one end. I then left this to harden overnight.

Taking s small piece of modelling paste, I moulded it into a tear shape and then flattened it with my fingers.

Using a little vodka, I stuck the tear shape onto the flattened part of the handle.

I then used my knife and scriber tool to mark the bristles.

Marking the bristles on the bottom too gives a real broom like effect.

I took a small piece of grey fondant, rolled it into a tube and flattened it. I then stuck it around the top of the bristles.

Lastly, I took two very small pieces of green fondant, rolled them into small tubes and stuck them onto the broom as can be seen above.

To make the colours I needed, I added a little bit of PME black gel paste to my modelling paste to make the light grey colour. I then added a little more black to make the darker grey.

Just like I did for the broomstick, I rolled a piece of brown modelling paste into a tube and flattened it at one end.

I then moulded a light grey piece of modelling paste into a tear shape and stuck it onto the flattened part of the handle. Using my fingers, I moulded the end of the tear so it flicked to one side.

Again, I used my knife and scriber tool to mark the mop head.

I rolled out a piece of dark grey modelling paste and cut in into a strip. I then stuck this around the top of the mop head, trimming it to fit.

Using my knife and scriber tool, I gently marked an indent as can be seen in the image above.

Firstly, I rolled a piece of grey modelling paste into a tube. Then I curved one end over slightly. This can be seen in the image above. I then left it to dry overnight.

Next, I moulded a piece of red modelling paste into a thick sausage shape and then pressed down so the back was flat. I stuck the handle on top as can be seen above. I pressed down slightly so the handle made a groove in the red modelling paste.

Next, I took a small piece of grey modelling paste and shaped it into a square. I then did the same with a smaller piece of green modelling paste and stuck it on top of the grey one.

Using my fingers, I gently smoothed the two colours together, creating slanting sides.

I used my ball tool to make a hole in the top of the green square.

Using a little vodka to secure, I put the end of the handle into the premade hole. I then stuck a small piece of grey modelling paste on the handle as can be seen above.

To make the moons, I simply rolled out some white modelling paste and cut out three circles. Once the circles had hardened, I dusted them with Sugarflair’s Pearl White dust. The bats were made out of a mould.

These Hocus Pocus themed Halloween cupcakes were so much fun to create! Below are affiliate links to some of the items I used to make them. Happy baking all!
