Hi everyone, what do you think of these cute snowman cupcake toppers that I made this week? I made these for my girls, using their favourite colours and they loved them! This post takes you through how I made these festive cupcake toppers. This really was a fun Christmas cupcake idea. As with most of my makes, I used vodka to stick my toppers together, but you can also use edible glue. I use modelling tools to help me make these toppers. I have a page dedicated to all my favourite modelling tools here. There is also a list of the items that I used to make these snowman toppers a the bottom of the page.

Firstly, you need to make the disc with which you can build the snowman on. Roll out some blue modelling paste and cut out a disc shape using a circle cutter. It’s a good idea to leave this to dry overnight so it’s easier and less fragile to decorate. I coloured some of my white modelling paste blue with a tiny amount of PME Ocean Blue Food Colouring Paste.
Body and Head

Take a small piece of white modelling paste and mould it into a flat shape, similar to that of an oval.

Use the same circle cutter that you used to make the blue disc and cut a small section off the bottom of your white shape.

Stick the shape onto your blue disc. Make a small dip in the top for the head to go.

To make the head, mould a piece of white modelling paste into an oval shape. Make sure it is slightly thicker than the body.

Use a ball tool to make holes for the snowman’s eyes and nose.

Use a scallop modelling tool to make the snowman’s smile.

Stick the head on top of the body.

For the eyes, stick small black sugar pearls into the eye sockets. You could also use small balls of black fondant.
Hat

Roll a small amount of purple modelling paste into a banana shape.

Use a knife tool to mark diagonal lines onto the hat.

Now mark diagonal lines in the opposite direction.

Roll a tiny piece of modelling paste into a ball and stick it on top of the hat. Texture with a ball tool.

Roll a piece of purple modelling paste into a tube and flatten slightly.

Check it is the correct length and then stick the tube over where the head and hat join.

Texture with diagonal lines.
Scarf

Cut out a long flat strip of purple modelling paste. Cut a small piece off.

Use a knife to cut small lines into the modelling paste to be the scarf’s tassels.

Mark diagonal lines on it and then stick it onto the snowman, as can be seen above.

Mark diagonal lines onto the main part of the scarf.

Stick the scarf over the neck area. Now repeat the first process to make the last part of the scarf.

Stick the last piece of the scarf onto the snowman as can be seen above.
Arms and Gloves

Take two small pieces of brown modelling paste and roll them into short tubes. Stick these either side of the snowman for arms. Flatten the ends.

Roll two small pieces of purple modelling paste into balls and then form them into flat tear shapes. Make sure they are the same size.

Cut out a v shaped piece from both of the tear shapes. Soften the edges with your fingers.

Stick these on the end of the arms and then mark the diagonal lines on these too.
Face and Buttons

Mark a tiny white dot on each eye. I used an edible white paint pen to do this.

Form a tiny piece of orange modelling paste into a cone shape and stick into your premade nose hole.

If you wanted to you could mark red in the mouth. I used an edible red pen to do this.

Add pink blush to the cheeks using pink dust.

For the buttons, roll two tiny pieces of pink modelling paste into balls and stick onto the snowman’s body.

Flatten the buttons with a ball tool.

Lastly, use a needle tool to mark holes into the buttons.

For some finishing touches, I added a few sugar pearls to the disc for snow and a small snowflake made out of white modelling paste.

So that’s how I made these Christmas themed cupcake toppers. I really hope you like them. Below is a list of items used in this tutorial with affiliate links. You may also be interested in some of my other Christmas cupcake tutorials such as my penguin cupcake toppers or my festive mini cupcakes!
